The ubiquitous Test Drive series is back. The latest culprit is Test Drive Off-Road 3 for the Game Boy Color. For a pintsize handheld game, Off-Road 3 is packed with options, including a single-race mode and seven increasingly difficult tournament cups that extend over 24 tracks and eight locations.

Players earn cash by winning racers. Your newfound loot can be used to purchase any of 10 licensed off-road machines. Power-ups, which are rewarded for solid finishes, can be used to increase your speed and traction. These special boosts can come in handy for stranded players that are anxious to get back on track.

A welcome feature is the police-chase mode, in which players try to bump and cite as many racers as possible. As a bonus, the cartridge comes with a built-in rumble feature that lets you feel the action as you speed through mud, dirt, ice, and sand. It's just too bad the graphics are too small to appreciate all the different off-roaders. --Robb Guido
